Frans Burgers has created a large following of happy customers by scouting and selling commercial and talented horses. The approved stallions Plot Blue (by Mr. Blue) and Oklund (by Holland) are well-known horses that left his barn in the south of Holland, called Burgers Stables Sporthorses. Currently, Frans' homebreds such as Gigi-Carmen (s.Bacardi VDL), Ikigai (s.Elvis ter Putte), and Hangover (s.Action Breaker) all jump at 1.50 m-1.60 m Grand Prix level.
Frans also has young showjumping talents, hunters, and equitation horses for sale. In the auction of Dutch Horse Trading, though, he will enter not only hunters and equitation horses but also nice amateur horses and young talents, both for jumping and dressage. Most young horses come from his own breeding operation or directly from the breeder.
“Personally, I like a horse with a lot of blood,” says Frans. “Initially, those horses are often not the easiest, but once you've trained them for a while, you will have something special. Sharp, scopey horses with the right mentality, can get you far in our sport. But if I have to choose a jumper, I like a nice posture and a good use of the shoulder as well.”
Transparency and after-sales are important to Frans when dealing with customers. That is one of his reasons for participating in Dutch Horse Trading. “Although there are already many online auctions, I think this could be a very good new format. An auction on a fixed day of the month with horses from a group of reliable and knowledgeable horse dealers makes the whole experience more personal. Buyers know who the people behind this initiative are and can make a confident offer,” says Frans. “I always appreciate contact with buyers. The auction only grows if the buyers are content! A happy customer is a returning customer.”
